US

Service Description

Based on the recommendation of the CDC and WHO, Bmom has decided to set up a community village as well as individual support for breastfeeding among the African-american and minorities community in Baltimore city. We know that breastfeeding is beneficial at different levels of the determinant of health. Beneficial for the mother and infant’s health on the long term. But according to the CDC, 2021, “Only 1 in 4 infants are exclusively breastfed, as recommended, by the time they are 6 months old. Low rates of breastfeeding add more than $3 billion a year to medical costs for the mother and child in the United States. Three quarters (76%) of Black infants are ever breastfed, which is below the national average of 84%.” B Mom is committed to develop a community village for breastfeeding; 1. Develop a curriculum to help with breastfeeding for mothers and fathers 2. Work with organizations and businesses in Baltimore city around breastfeeding 3. Support women in their breastfeeding journeys until they’re well established on their own 4. Groups to share tips After 6 months of inclusive breastfeeding/ introducing solid food The goal of the breastfeeding village is to modify the African-American community's behavior towards breastfeeding, as well as towards the vaccine.
